Eligibility
Crawlers need access to readable content and a coherent business identity.
Visible2 is an AI visibility consultancy that helps businesses understand how AI systems interpret, trust, and recommend websites in AI-driven search and discovery.
AI search visibility is the extent to which a business is discoverable, understood and surfaced in AI-generated search and assistant answers.
AI search visibility is the extent to which a business is discoverable, understood and surfaced in AI-generated search and assistant answers.
Traditional search gives a list of results. AI search often synthesises those results into an answer. That changes the competitive unit from “where does my page rank?” to “does the system know enough about my business to include it?”
Crawlers need access to readable content and a coherent business identity.
The system needs relevant information associated with the questions a buyer asks.
Consistent first-party information and credible external corroboration reduce ambiguity.
The business still has to be useful and relevant enough to be chosen for the final answer.
A strong Google position can help discovery, but it does not prove an AI assistant will mention the business. Likewise, one AI mention does not prove consistent visibility. The only defensible measure is repeated testing across a defined set of buyer questions.
Start with access, entity clarity and direct answers. Then strengthen corroboration and measure actual recommendation behavior. This order prevents businesses from spending on speculative tactics while basic eligibility problems remain unresolved.
Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode are rooted in its core Search ranking and quality systems. It also documents query fan-out: one user question can generate several related searches to retrieve the information needed for an answer. That is one reason creating a separate page for every tiny keyword variation is unnecessary.
For Google specifically, a page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet before it can appear in generative AI features. Eligibility still does not guarantee selection.
Which pages and sources are retrieved or cited for the questions that matter?
How often is the business named in unbranded buyer questions?
How often is the business presented as a provider compared with named competitors?
Start with evidence. Run the free Visible2 scan to check whether the website foundations are in place. If the site is ready, move to repeated measurement of the buyer questions that matter rather than making speculative changes.

Think in four stages: eligibility, retrieval, confidence and selection — then measure the output.
A cited page, a named brand and a recommended provider are three different outcomes. Measure them separately.
Crawler access is an eligibility gate. Different assistants use different agents, and blocking one can have a different effect from blocking another.
